My foremost interest is current affairs with a focus on European and environmental issues although my initial interest in terms of a career was in science and this led me to undertake two degrees, a four year BA (liberal arts) with a major in biology in the USA which was quickly followed by an MSc in genetics in the UK. Work led me in another direction as I had ample other qualifications in accounting, computer programming etc, so I eventually ended up working for an accounting firm in London which at that time, was at the forefront of computer technology. This eventually equipped me with the knowledge and experience I needed to help my husband start up our own production-based business and further stimulated my interest in market activities.
On moving to Australia, I completed an MBA and thereafter worked as an academic at the same institute, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) as lecturer/tutor within the business degrees in multiple areas. I also produced and developed teaching materials for both QUT and the TAFE (Tertiary & Further Education) colleges in Queensland. Spending a year away in Korea was a very different experience; I taught English and also wrote regularly for the Korea Times out of personal interest. I have worked at QUT for nearly twenty years now and my preferred areas of teaching are in the inter-relations of government, business and society and current affairs.
My personal interests are in gardening, reading, travel and investigating my family history.
